Lay LeadershipMission Statement To empower lay people to be in ministry, Building Wholeness With The Hands Of Christ. Role In The Life Of The Church The primary task of the Committee On Lay Leadership is to ensure the congregation has a process for inviting, nominating, training and supporting people for Christian spiritual leadership positions essential to the ministries of administration, nurture, and outreach for our congregation and community. Objectives - To become familiar with as many persons in our congregation as possible; Learn their gifts, skills, interests, knowledge and commitment; - To list the leadership positions established in our congregation; - To work cooperatively with committees, ministry groups, and other groups or individuals in preparing job descriptions that are adapted to the needs and organization style of our church; - To study the responsibilities for each leadership position; - To match potential leaders with particular leadership positions; - To invite people to serve in leadership positions, receive their responses, and present those nominated to the Charge Conference; - To plan for programs throughout the year to ensure that people are adequately trained and supported for their work; - To elect a Lay Co-Chairperson to lead with the Pastor and to represent the Committee on the Church Council; - To be accountable to the Charge Conference through the Church Council. Structure Pastor, Lay Leader, and Co-Chairs, as well as several Committee members. Lay Leader also serves on the Church Council. Responsibilities Of The Chairpersons - To be responsible for guiding the work of the Committee throughout the year, planning its agenda, and presiding at its meetings; - To report to the Charge Conference and the Church Council a slate of nominations listing people who have agreed to serve in all elected positions; - To obtain resource materials and information for training and support programs. Current Needs To involve all Committee members in talking with a cross section of our congregation about their availability for leadership positions, and about their skills and interests when selecting persons. |
