Children's Sunday SchoolDate: Sunday, September 20, 2009 - Sunday, May 23, 2010Time: 09:00 AM - 10:00 AM We have a wonderful Sunday School program here at the United Methodist Church. Sunday School begins in September and is held through May. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 - 10:00 am. We also offer an exciting Vacation Bible School week in August. Below is a description of the classes we are offering this year.
Preschoolers through fifth grade begin their Sunday mornings in the sanctuary for a time of music and singing. Music time is lead by some talented individuals in our congregation, and the children sing both traditional and contemporary Christian songs. During November and December, the children rehearse for a children's Christmas program that is performed for the congregation during worship service in mid-December.
PreschoolOur preschool class is lead by Ellen Severson and is open to children ages 3-5. This year the preschoolers will be learning about some amazing events in the Bible: Creation, Feeding of the 5,000, Plagues and Passover, and the Incarnation. The children learn through story telling, crafts and other fun activities.KindergartenOur Kindergarten and first grade class is lead by Asha Gilmore and Laura Mason. Our teachers have chosen curriculum from David C. Cook called "Bible In Life." The children will learn through storytelling and crafts. The lessons taught this year include: Learning From My Family, Love My Family, Friends Are Special, Jesus is My Friend, I Can Help My Friends, Jesus Can Help My Friends, Share What You Have, Learning From The Bible, Giving Our Offerings, God's People Pray, Church Leaders Care.
Grade SchoolOur 2-5th graders will be studying "A Witness to God's Presence." This is a Workshop Rotation Model that is an exciting, innovative method of teaching Sunday School. The story or theme is taught in more than one way over a period of several weeks. Children move or “rotate” each week to a different workshop with a different leader. For example, the first week the children might experience the story through drama. The second week they might be cooking or creating a craft. The third week the class could be working on a mission project. The following are the themes that will be covered this year; Creation, Exodus: Plagues/Passover, The Incarnation, Wandering the Wilderness, Feeding of the 5000, The Lord's Prayer, The Last Supper, The Walk to Emmaus, and Paul on the Road.Middle SchoolOur middle school class is studying from the "Choosing Jesus" Faith in Motion Series. This curriculum gives the students a clear life application message and youth enjoyment. The series includes sixteen topical studies including; Back to the Basics, Beyond Wings and Halos - Angels in the Bible, Cults, Judaism and Islam, Buddhism, Love, Kindness, and Mercy. The student book provides youth with helpful information about the topic, questions related to the session and their lives, practical help for next steps, a key Scripture or important quotation, and a challenge for the week.High SchoolThe High School class is studying from "LinC: Living in Christ." LinC examines the latest music, movies, news, and current events through a biblical lens. Students will dig deeper into Bible study, equipping them to evaluate their culture with a biblical perspective.
